Couples Counseling in Severna Park, Maryland

Meet Kara Willis, LCMFT

Hi! I’m Kara.

I’m a marriage and family therapist who works with couples who love each other, but lately… it just feels harder than it used to. Maybe you’re stuck in the same argument over and over, feeling more like roommates than partners, or trying to rebuild trust after something painful, like infidelity or a long stretch of disconnection. Whatever it is, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

I believe relationships are where we do some of our most meaningful and sometimes messiest work. My job is to help you both slow down, understand what’s really happening underneath the surface, and find your way back to each other with honesty, curiosity, and a little humor when you need it.

My style is warm, down-to-earth, and authentic. I bring structure when things feel chaotic, humor when things feel heavy, and compassion when you’re feeling stuck or unsure how to move forward. Together, we’ll get clear on the patterns that keep pulling you apart and build new ways of communicating that help each of you feel seen, heard, and valued again.

Whether you’re trying to heal after a breach of trust, feeling disconnected and distant, or just wanting your relationship to feel like “us” again, I’m here to help you rebuild something that feels secure, honest, and alive.

If you’re ready for things to feel different - closer, calmer, more connected - I’d love to support you. Let’s get started!

Non-Therapy Notes

  • I have a ridiculous cat named Steve, who acts like a dog. He was born under a barn and I NEVER thought I would have a cat…I habitually told my 2 daughters that I was allergic to cats so we could not have one…I am allergic, and I can’t imagine life without Steve!

  • I have a blended family and I am so grateful for the friendships between the 4 kids…they certainly keep us entertained with their antics.

  • I grew up in Michigan and a very specific white birch tree in Honor, Michigan was the inspiration for Birch & Arrow.

  • The arrow in Birch & Arrow comes from a favorite and meaningful quote by Paulo Coelho - “An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it’s going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming”.
